On The Road to a Scooter On The Road

Well, I'm nearly there and I am Super - pun intended, you’ll understand why in a moment - excited! I have been doing my homework and researching scooters. It was probably obvious to anyone who was paying attention to the visuals in my last post which scooter I have been zeroing in on. And really there hasn't been much in the way of competition in my mind. Just as we here think Osmosus is stylish and practical, I wanted my/our scooter to be as stylish as it was practical and that road, pretty much, only leads to Vespa. The original stylish scooter made famous my Greg Peck and Audrey Hepburn in the movie Roman Holiday. This icon is arguably - actually for me not much of an argument necessary - the most stylish, cool and hip scooter brand ever produced. Vespa has a very unique and interesting history starting in 1884 when Piaggio was founded, and the story is chronicled nicely on the Vespa USA site. There are lots of Vespa models to choose from but I knew that I wanted something that would give me the ultra-urban convenience factor of zipping through the ridiculously congested streets of Vancouver and getting virtually free parking as well as the ability to cruise easily further afield to see my brother and his family 50kms away from me in South Surrey as well as my friends around the Lower Mainland. And, of course, since it’s a scooter after all, it will be far, far more environmentally friendly than my car.

So? Which One?

I am pretty familiar with the 50cc models and rode a couple of them last year but my requirements quickly led me up the Vespa model chain to the ultimate Vespa, the newly introduced Vespa GTS 300 Super. I instantly fell in love with this scoot and knew that I had found what I was looking for. The GTS 300 Super clearly has the sporty, sexy, hip and groovy styling that makes Vespa famous but it also has been engineered for agility and speed. It has the largest engine Vespa has ever built a scooter around but still gets the incredible mileage that scooters are famous for and still meets the requirements for my journey to greater sustainability and less GHGs!

That's The Plan!

So that’s it. That’s the plan. It’s the Vespa GTS 300 Super. In white just like the images here. We’re going to trick it out and make it the Osmosus mascot and I simply cannot wait!

Next in the series: OK, I know what I Want…Now What?
